The Genius of Play

At the heart of the exhibition, spotted gourds—suspended from braided synthetic hair—hover gently above checkered foam floor tiles. These gourds were grown by Woods' mother, an autodidactic horticulturist with a sprawling food forest. Nurtured carefully by Woods' mother, the gourds took a year to grow and another six months to harden and cure before being transformed into these floating sculptures.
